Indonesia to battle in Badminton Asia Championships' semifinal

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian athletes are set to clash in the semifinal round of the 2019 Badminton Asia Championships at the Wuhan Sports Center, Wuhan, China.

The men's doubles pair of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo will play Japanese duo Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda, while Indonesia's women's doubles pair of Della Destiara Haris and Rizki Amelia Pradipta will face Chinese pair Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan.

In the quarter-finals held on Friday (Apr 26), Marcus and Kevin put in a commendable performance, with a 21-13, 19-21, 21-16 victory over Chinese pair Han Chengkai and Zhou Haodong.

The Chinese Taipei pair of Chang Ching Hui and Yang Ching Tun was earlier edged out 21-12, 21-18 by Della and Rizki in a 38-minute clash spanning two games.

In yesterday's quarter-final match, the Indonesian mixed doubles pair of Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja bowed down to Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai, with a score of 21-15, 7-21, 12-21.

Prize money totaling US$400 thousand is up for grabs in the 2019 Badminton Asia Championships' semi-final round to be held on Saturday (Apr 27), commencing from 14:00 local time.
