Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA) - The police have recaptured five out of 30 detainees of drug cases who escaped a police custody in the Palembang police precinct, South Sumatra, early Sunday.

"We arrest five detainees in different locations in Mariana and Sukarame areas," Palembang City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Didi Hayamansyah said here on Sunday.

The police are still chasing the remaining 25 escapees and called on them to surrender.

"It would be better for them to surrender or we will take stern measures against them," Hayamansyah noted.

The police is still investigating the case and found a broken ventilation in the bathroom as well as a CCTV, allegedly damaged by the culprits.

The police have also questioned officers on duty when the detainees escaped.

The 30 inmates were previously detained in three different cells.
