When everything is already clear to start the plan, we will make adjustments in the working plan. However, surely, it has been incorporated into the RPJMN for the next five years.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Development Planning Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro has confirmed that the technocratic draft of the 2020-2024 medium-term development plan (RPJMN) includes the plan on shifting the seat of government from Jakarta to another location.

"When clarity is gained on all matters to initiate the plan, we will make the necessary changes in the working plan. However, it has certainly been included in the RPJMN for the subsequent five years," he remarked in Jakarta on Thursday.

Brodjonegoro, concurrently the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) head, noted that the planned relocation of the state capital was part of the nation's long-term strategy, chiefly focusing on lessening Jakarta's burdens and transforming it into a regional- and international-scale business, financial, and economic hub.

"Secondly, (the government is keen) to offer opportunities for swifter growth to regions outside Java to better deal with the disparities between Java and other regions," he remarked.

Brodjonegoro revealed that the government had taken cognizance of the mistakes and shortcomings in the management of cities in Indonesia and taken a cue from other nations' failures and successes in relocating their seat of government.

"Having learnt from the successes and failures, we will chart out the best possible path, so that the economic and social sectors will be benefited from moving the state capital to another location," he stated.

The Bappenas chief had remarked earlier that Rp466 trillion will be the estimated expenses to be borne to construct the new state capital on 40 thousand hectares of land outside Java. EDITED BY INE
