Manado (ANTARA) - North Sulawesi Province (Sulut) exported coconut flour to Egypt at the start of the fasting month to fulfill the high demand there. "There were two batches of exports with a volume of 104 tons each," Head of the Sulut Industry and Trade Agency Darwin Muksin said in Manado on Thursday.

Darwin stated that the exports could increase foreign exchange for Indonesia, with the first batch of exports recording US$ 113,143 and the second one US$ 116,259.

Stating that the demand for coconut flour from countries in the Middle East before Eid increased, he said, "Coconut flour is usually exported once a month, but during the fasting month, we export it twice a month."

He hoped that the export of coconut flour to Egypt would continue to increase.

"Exporting coconut flour to Egypt is an opportunity for Sulut to expand the exports of main commodities to more countries across the world," he said.

Coconut flour is one of the main commodities of North Sulawesi, which has many export destinations and Egypt is one of the potential markets in the African region.

While Egypt is not the most dominant export market for coconut flour, Darwin believed that it has the potential to expand the coconut flour in the market there.

"Coconut flour is one of the main raw materials in Egypt; therefore I am optimistic that exports to Egypt will increase in the future," Darwin concluded.
