Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Presidential and Vice-Presidential pair Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin secured 1,094,845 votes in East Kalimantan Province, surpassing Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno, who only bagged 870,443 votes, according to the local General Election Commission's (KPU's) official counting until early Saturday (May 11).

This is based on the results of the commission's plenary meeting held at the Senyiur Hotel, Samarinda, on Friday night.

East Kalimantan KPU Chairman Rudiansyah pointed to a rise in voter participation during the 2019 simultaneous elections in the province, crossing 70 percent.

Rudiansyah remarked that the presidential election vote recapitulation revealed that 2,000,281 people had cast their ballot, with 1,965,288 valid votes and 37,993 invalid votes.

"Our list of voters is based on the results of an increase in the number of voters in the simultaneous elections in 2019, reaching as many as 2,439,438, and over 70 percent of the people had exercised their right to vote," he explained.

The plenary recapitulation at the East Kalimantan provincial level on May 9-10, 2019, was held under stringent security offered by the police and the military (TNI).

Reports showed the deployment of 450 police personnel for safeguarding the vote recapitulation process.

Along with recapitulating the results of the presidential election, the plenary also conducted vote count recapitulation for the House of rRepresentatives (DPR RI), Regional Representatives (DPD) from 10 cities in East Kalimantan.
