Kupang (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo is scheduled to pay a visit to Atambua, the capital of Belu District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on May 20, 2019, for inaugurating the Rotiklot Dam in the border area with Timor Leste.

"We have met at the palace, and almost certainly, President Jokowi will inaugurate the Rotiklot Dam during a visit to NTT on May 20," Agus Sosiawan, head of the East Nusa Tenggara River Region, informed Antara on Thursday (May16).

Sosiawan remarked that water had been released into the Rotiklot Dam since the start of this year and was now ready to be inaugurated. The dam, with a capacity of 3.2 million cubic meters, is located in Fatuketi Village, Kakuluk Mesak Sub-district, Belu District.

Rotiklot Dam will help in watering paddy fields spanning 139 hectares and 500 hectares for secondary crops and act as a flood control mechanism in preventing floods in the downstream area of Ainiba as well as supply raw water at 40 liters per second to communities around Atapupu Port.

PT Nindya Karya (Persero) and PT Universal Suryaprima (KSO) were in charge of construction of the Rotiklot Dam, with the supervision consultant PT Indra Karya (Persero), PT Patria Jasa Nusaprakarsa, and PT Agra Pasca KSO Plan. The dam was constructed with funding sourced from the APBN 2015-2018 reaching Rp496.97 billion.
