The promotion of Mr Kato suggests that Indonesia is the market to which Mitsubishi pays high attention.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is expected to become a more significant production and marketing base of Mitsubishi Motors Corp after PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia (MMKI) President Director Takao Kato's promotion to CEO to replace Osamu Masuko.

"Kato's promotion to CEO suggests that Indonesia is the market that Mitsubishi is laying significant focus on," President Director of PT Mitsubishi Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) Naoya Nakamura remarked in Jakarta on Friday night.

Nakamura got the news on Friday night almost two hours prior to him addressing a get-together with the Indonesian media as part of a series of activities to break the fast.

Mitsubishi Motors Corp has two firms in Indonesia: MMKSI operating as the main distributor and MMKI that becomes a producer of Mitsubishi vehicles for domestic sales and exports.

Mitsubishi has managed to maintain its hold on the Indonesian market through its small multipurpose vehicle Small MPV Xpander that has turned out to be one of the two companies' achievement in developing their businesses in Indonesia.

Nakamura remarked that Mitsubishi Xpander has been well-received in Indonesia, with sales hitting a record high of 100 thousand units in 18 months.

The success is inseparable from the role of MMKI, led by Takao Kato, in driving the production of Mitsubishi Xpander for which demand averages six thousand units monthly, while MMKI's production capacity reaches 160 thousand units annually. EDITED BY INE
