Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - Lampung province's imports surged 171.26 percent to US$397.38 million during the first four months of 2019, compared to one month earlier.

"The April 2019 imports were also US$169.59 million, or 74.45 percent higher than April 2018," Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Office in Lampung Province Yeane Irmaningrum said in Bandarlampung on Saturday.

She noted that four of the five main imported goods saw an increase in April, with the import of live animals increasing 51.88 percent, fertilizers climbing 48.42 percent, food industrial waste increasing 47.75 percent and machines and mechanical appliances up 38.07 percent.

However, the import of sugar and confectionery fell 4.51 percent.

These five groups of imported goods contributed 17.22 percent to total imports in April 2019, she said.
