Jakarta (ANTARA) - The security situation in Indonesia's capital and most populous city of Jakarta is conducive in spite of rioting around Tanah Abang and Petamburan.

"In general, the security situation in Jakarta remains conducive. The unrest only occurred around the streets of M.H. Thamrin, Tanah Abang, and Petamburan, though outside these areas, Jakarta remains conducive," Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan noted after paying a visit to the victims of the riots at Tarakan Hospital, Jakarta, Wednesday.

Governor Baswedan called on Jakarta's citizens to not panic and stay calm as well as to conduct their activities as usual.

"Continue to follow the principles of peace. Employ peaceful means. All parties safeguarding the demonstration must exercise self-restraint to create a conducive atmosphere," the governor emphasized.

Six people were killed, while some 200 others suffered injuries for which they were moved to several hospitals in Jakarta until Wednesday at 9 a.m. local time following a protest against the presidential election results declared by the General Election Commission on Tuesday.

"According to data made available at 9 a.m. local time, some 200 people were moved to five hospitals in Jakarta, while six others died," Jakarta Governor Baswedan had earlier stated.
