Basically, people who are obliged to pay zakat al-fitr are those who are fortunate in their own lives. In this month of Ramadan, ACT offers a solution for the distribution of zakat from Indonesians to people in Palestine and Syria.
Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The philanthropic organization ACT (Fast Action Response) of South Sulawesi has delivered food for zakat al-fitr to Muslims in Palestine and Syria.

"Zakat a-fitr is the obligation of all Muslims in the world and is distributed during the month of Ramadan. There are conditions for paying zakat," Head of ACT South Sulawesi Faizal Agunisman said here on Monday.

He explained that people who are obliged to pay zakat al-fitr have been designated according to Islamic law. Zakat al-fitr is charity for the poor taken from all Muslims who have food in excess of their needs. It is collected shortly before the end of fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Zakat al-fitr must be fulfilled by Muslims who meet specific requirements and is distributed once a year during the month of Ramadan and before the Eid prayer.

"Basically, people who are obliged to pay zakat al-fitr are those who are fortunate in their own lives. In this month of Ramadan, ACT offers a solution for the distribution of zakat from Indonesians to people in Palestine and Syria," he said.

According to Faizal, Muslims in Palestine and Syria are suffering more than poor people in Indonesia because of the uncertainty in the two countries. People in both these countries also suffer from bombings and military attacks.

"The situation and conditions in these countries are uncertain. As a result, many people are starving. We have an initiative to distribute aid from the Indonesian people to those living in Palestine and Syria," Faizal said.
