Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian parliamentary delegation, led by Deputy House Speaker Fahri Hamzah, is on a working visit to Amman, Jordan, to establish inter-parliamentary cooperation between both nations.

The working visit, on May 26-29, took place a week following the General Election Commission's (KPU's) announcement of the results on May 22 of the presidential elections held on Apr 17, the Indonesian Embassy in Amman noted in a written statement released on Wednesday.

Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan Andy Rachmianto remarked that the visit took place on the back of the Inter-parliamentary Cooperation Board (BKSAP) and the Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) visiting some time ago.

"The Indonesian parliament's visit demonstrates diplomatic support from the parliament to intensify bilateral relations between Indonesia and Jordan," he affirmed.

During the visit, Hamzah appealed to the Jordanian government to aid in boosting Indonesian tourist arrivals by offering visa waivers, attractive tour packages, and operating direct flights.

"If they can take these steps, the number of tourist arrivals from Indonesia will rise significantly," he emphasized.

During their stay in Jordan, the Indonesian delegation also broke the fast and met with the Indonesian citizens and diaspora at the embassy.

Hamzah, deputy house speaker for People's Welfare, further lauded the embassy for catering to the public's interests and safeguarding Indonesian migrant workers in Jordan.

Furthermore, he will encourage sources of funding to offer scholarships to Indonesian students keen on pursuing higher education in Jordan.
