Jakarta (ANTARA) - The peak of homebound rail traffic at Gambir Station, Central Jakarta, is expected to occur today, with the departure of over 22,000 passengers.

"There is a surge today (Saturday). Compared to yesterday, there are more passengers today," said Head of Gambir Station Rizki Afrida in Jakarta on Saturday.

To anticipate the surge, 47 trains were scheduled from Gambir Station on Saturday before Eid al-Fitr.

"It consists of 32 regular trains and 15 additional trains," he said.

The passenger volume at Gambir Station, which was recorded at more than 22,000, was the highest since the beginning of the Eid al-Fitr homebound period on 26 May.

On May 31, the number of passengers departing from Jakarta at Gambir station reached 21,895 passengers, while on May 30, the number of passengers was recorded at 20,453.

Regarding another increase in passengers during the next three days, he said, "We can't confirm it yet. Maybe it will decrease because it is now H-4 Eid al-Fitr."
