Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Police revealed that of the 447 detained for triggering mayhem during the May 21-22 rally to reject the presidential election results announced by the General Election Commission (KPU), 67 were underage.

"In connection with the May 21-22 event, as was earlier reported, 447 people were named suspects, and 67 of them are underage," Senor Commissioner Asep Adi Saputra, spokesman of the Indonesian Police (Polri), remarked here on Monday.

Those underage suspects received directives and were returned to their parents, while several others were offered training and guidance, he stated.

The police will shortly make an announcement of the field coordinators and executors of the riot, he remarked.

"It is yet under investigation, and we will soon offer you an update," he informed the press.

General Tito Karnavian has established an investigation team to probe the deaths of several people during the unrest.

The Indonesian Ombudsman and the National Commission of Human Rights (Komnas HAM) have also been working in tandem with the Police's investigation team.

Jakarta's post-election rally, which concluded in violence from May 21 to 22, 2019, resulting in the deaths of eight people and injuries to hundreds of protestors and nine police officers.

Among the injured, 294 were aged between 20 and 24 years, and 170 others were under 19 years of age, while three teenagers among others had died, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stated.

The KPU had made public the final results of the recent parliamentary and presidential elections on May 22 at 1:28 a.m. local time, announcing that the Jokowi-Maruf Amin pair had secured 85 million votes, or 55.5 percent of the national vote, outshining their contenders Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno, who managed to bag 68 million votes, or 44.5 percent.

The Jokowi-Amin pair has since then declared victory, whereas the Prabowo-Sandi pair has expressed its rejection to the KPU's official tabulation result and filed a legal challenge in the Constitutional Court (MK).

This unfinished political process fuelled a mass protest from Prabowo's supporters, who aver massive fraud in the presidential elections.
