Padang, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - Humanitarian agency Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) has organized donations to assist those residing in several Indonesian regions hit by natural disasters.

Head of the ACT West Sumatra Branch Zeng Wellf stated on Friday (June 14) in Padang that several regions in Indonesia had borne the brunt of natural disasters few days before and after Eid al-Fitr 1440 Hijriah.

"Communities in disaster-stricken areas are in dire need of assistance. ACT mobilizes donations to be channeled to those affected by disaster," he remarked.

Some natural disasters striking before and after Eid comprised flash floods in Kotabaru District, South Kalimantan, due to high-intensity rains lashing since June 8; floods in Konawe Utara and Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, owing to torrential downpour since June 2, 2019; a 5.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Cilacap, Central Java; and the eruption of Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra.

The Indonesian Volunteer Society (MRI) ACT has acted swiftly to follow up on measures to handle the impact of the disasters by deploying a team to assist in the evacuation of residents to a safe place, distributing food packages to victims, and setting up humanitarian posts.

Moreover, it distributed logistics, offered health services for refugees owing to disease-prone conditions and coordinated with health facilities in the related area, and started public kitchens to cater to the food requirements of displaced victims.

The evacuated disaster victims are in desperate need of basic food, mattresses, blankets, clean water, toilet washing facilities (MCK), medicines, and essential items for women and infants, among others.

"This condition drives us to come together to help our brothers struck by the disaster. Donations can be channeled through the bank account of Bank Mandiri 1270007721242 on behalf of Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT)," he revealed.
