The BSSN maintains integrity and professionalism as well as remains neutral in supporting the general, public, free, confidential, fair, and honest elections.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) has foiled some 28.8 million cyberattacks targeting servers of the General Election Commission (KPU) until May 23, 2019.
"All those attempts have been successfully thwarted," BSSN Chief Hinsa Siburian revealed during a hearing with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the Parliament Building here on Monday.
The attack attempts, mostly of the malware type, were carried out on a massive scale, he remarked.
However, the agency, did not conduct further investigation into the motives and content of the attacks, he stated.
As a precautionary measure, the agency has established coordination with the KPU, the Technology Research and Assessment Agency (BPPT), the Communication and Informatics Ministry, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the National Police, the Justice and Human Rights Ministry, and other relevant institutions.
At the closed-door meeting, Siburian affirmed that his agency will continue to detect and identify cyberattacks after the KPU's declaration of the election results.
"The BSSN has maintained high levels of integrity and professionalism along with staying neutral in supporting the general, public, free, confidential, fair, and honest elections," he stated.
A total of Rp2.2 trillion has been budgeted for BSSN in 2020 to be channeled particularly for the development of human resources, research, and operational activities.
The amount is similar to that allocated for this year, though it is expected to be increased next year, he noted.
Indonesia had organized simultaneous legislative and presidential elections across the nation on April 17, 2019, viewed as being the world's most complex and largest single-day election.
