Indramayu (ANTARA) - Fire engulfed 15 fishing boats in Indramayu, West Java, following an electrical short circuit in the engine room in one of the ships that then spread to other ships.

Indramayu Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Yoris M. Y. Marzuki stated in Indramayu District on Saturday that the fishing boats caught fire that erupted on Friday (June 21) night around 11.30 pm local time and lasted until Saturday at around 04.00 am local time.

"Around 15 boats got singed," Marzuki noted.

The boat fire occurred at the fishing vessel roster of Eretan Wetan Village, Kandanghaur District, and Eretan Kulon Village, Indramayu District, West Java.

Marzuki explained that a short circuit in the engine room of the Squid "Fertile" ship allegedly caused the fire that burnt it down and spread to all sides.

"However, the wind blowing from the east led to the fire spreading to the boats lined up along the embankment," he revealed.

Marzuki noted that the Fire Department officers attempted to put out the fire by deploying four fire engines.

"Four fire engines were deployed to extinguish the fire," he added.
