Bangkok (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), accompanied by First Lady Iriana and the encourage in tow, arrived at The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, to attend the 34th ASEAN Summit.

President Jokowi, in a blue suit, arrived at the lobby of The Athenee Hotel at around 12:03 WIB.

While entering The Athenee Hotel's lobby, President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana held a bouquet of flowers that they had received as a welcome gesture from the Thai government.

The president and First Lady Iriana were welcomed by Foreign Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi and Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita at The Athenee Hotel on Saturday.

Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand Ahmad Rusdi and his staff also greeted Jokowi and First Lady Iriana at the hotel lobby where they stayed while in Singapore.

According to a statement by Deputy of Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin, during the two-day summit, Jokowi will encourage the ASEAN to remain united and strong in addressing the world's issues and dynamic global developments during this time.

This is expected to have an influence on the Southeast Asian region. To this end, the president will encourage ASEAN member nations to agree on a Joint View of the ASEAN Indo-Pacific concept.

The concept is viewed as being crucial to maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia that has gone well amid the swiftly developing geopolitical dynamics.

The former DKI Jakarta governor will also draw attention to the commitment to concluding negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Cooperation (RCEP) deemed significant to be improved in responding to developments in the world economy. Indonesia will also raise the issue concerning Rakhine State.

The president's agenda will also encompass chairing the 12th Summit of the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Summit and attending the 13th Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines meeting East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

President Jokowi is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with several leaders of ASEAN nations.
