Tanjungpinang (ANTARA) - The proposed rights to the bauxite mining questionnaire in Bintan District face cancellation because there are four draft regional regulations that have yet to be discussed and approved by the Legislative Council of Riau Islands Province. Four regional regulations targeted to be approved before the end of the 45 legislative terms include the Zoning Plan for Coastal Areas and Small Islands, Malay-style buildings and amendment of the 2019 regoonal budget, said the Deputy Chairperson of Riau Islands Provincial Legislative Council, Husnizar Hood, who was contacted by Antara in Tanjungpinang Monday.

"The regulation is supposed to be completed before September 9, 2019, or before the end of the term of office of legislators," he said.

The term of office of the regional legislative council's members was only around three months. If the submission of questionnaire rights is carried out in the near future, there is a likelihood that it may not be completed before the end of the term of the legislators, said Husnizar, who is also the Secretary of the Democratic Party of the Republic of Indonesia.

"This means that legislators must continue in the coming period. But that will be difficult," he said.

The problem was also conveyed to a number of legislative members before starting the provincial discussion meeting on Zoning Plan for Coastal Areas and Small Islands.

Therefore legislative members must consider not leaving until after the inquiry rights are submitted, even if not resolved in this period, he said.

"We ask that this issue be seriously considered," he said.

Previously, a political observer from the Raja Haji College of Social and Political Sciences, Endri Sanopaka, had criticized the leadership of the provincial legislative council with regard to the leadership meeting discussing the plan to submit bauxite mining questionnaire rights.

"The inquiry right is inherent for each legislative member. It stands alone so it does not need to be discussed at the leadership level," Endri said.

Discussions by the head of the Riau Islands's legislative council on the proposed rights to the bauxite mining questionnaire were not uncommon. This is because the initiator of the inquiry rights comes from different parties or factions, Endri said.

Legislative members who propose questionnaire rights must coordinate with their party leaders. If they change their minds midway for any reason, the public must be informed.

The public will judge politicians who do not care about the environment and the forest.

The right of the questionnaire should be used because the issue of bauxite mining in Bintan is crucial, and the public has a right to know.

"The damage to the environment and forests has not yet been repaired. Not to mention the 19 permits issued by the Riau Islands provincial government, which are alleged to be procedural," he said.
