Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Manpower Ministry highlighted the importance of aligning labor policies with the development of the 4.0 industrial revolution in order to create a skilled workforce capable of competing with its counterparts from other nations.

Ministry of Manpower's Director General for Training and Productivity, Bambang Satrio, stated that currently, the future government policy prioritizes the development of human resources.

"This is part of the precautionary measures to build a large and skilled workforce," Satrio explained here on Tuesday.

To this end, the Ministry of Manpower has synergized with the industry to ensure trainings, imparted by the ministry to improve quality, can meet the demands of the industry.

Satrio noted that policies to strengthen human resources cannot be implemented by just one party, as it necessitates the participation of all elements to improve the quality of human resources in vast numbers.

By and large, the nation's employment conditions, as of February 2019, were yet to move from the "yellow light" condition, which in terms of the traffic light system means "take care," or be careful.

The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) has plunged to 5.01 percent, or 6.82 million people, the lowest in the history of the Republic of Indonesia.

He pointed to elementary and junior high school graduates continuing to dominate the Indonesian workforce, or reaching as much as 58.26 percent.

Informal workers also dominated by 57.27 percent, or 74.08 million people, thereby indicating that the Indonesian economy had yet to provide decent work to most of its citizens.

The aforementioned conditions will pose a challenge if Indonesia is not able to tap into its demographic bonus by 2030, Satrio noted. Related news: Ministry to develop digital platform to support fashion industry
