Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla honored five district and municipal governments and seven regional government heads with awards in recognition of their best services in performing administrative duties in three consecutive years.

The awards constituted a token of the central government's appreciation of the works and initiatives of the regional government heads and their ranks and files in providing good services to the public, Kalla noted in his address during the conferment ceremony at the Senayan Convention Hall in Jakarta on Wednesday.

It is expected that the awards would set an example for other regional government heads to make innovations and work well, he noted.

"The awards are a token of appreciation. (I know that) the cupboards of many regions are brimming with various awards. The awards set an example for other regions to make progress," he remarked.

The five district and municipal governments are Karanganyar District in Central Java, Banyuwangi District in East Java, Kuningan District in West Java, Makassar Municipality in South Sulawesi, and Gorontalo Municipality.

In the meantime, the seven regional government heads are West Nusa Tenggara governor for the 2013-2018 period Muhammad Zainul Majdi; Head of Bintan District, Riau Islands Province, Apri Sujadi; Head of Kabuto District, Gorontalo Province, Syarif Mbuinga; Mayor of Pekanbaru, Riau Province, Firdaus; Mayor of Cimahi, West Java Province, Ajay Muhammad Priatna; Mayor of Denpasar, Bali Province, Ida Bagus Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra; and Mayor of Madiun, East Java Province, Sugeng Rismiyanto.

Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara, and acting Director General of Regional Autonomy of the Home Affairs Ministry Akmal Malik were also present at the conferment ceremony.
