Palu, C Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) Office in Central Sulawesi Province had received 139 reports of alleged human rights violations since 2016.

The reports of alleged human rights violations comprised 52 received in 2016, 34 in 2017, 36 in 2018, and 17 during the January-June 2019 period, according to data from the Komnas HAM Office in Central Sulawesi.

Chief of the Komnas HAM Office in Central Sulawesi Dedi Askan noted on Wednesday that communal conflicts and other conflicts arising from agrarian disputes between local residents and investors and between local residents and the state were rampant in the province.

The conflicts had a detrimental impact on the efforts to protect and uphold human rights of the people of Central Sulawesi to participate in all aspects of life, he remarked.

The representative office aims to help Komnas HAM develop conditions conducive to the implementation of human rights in accordance with the state ideology of Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and the UN Charter as well as Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
