Jakarta (ANTARA) - Disassembling the bamboo artwork "Getah Getih" at Hotel Indonesia boulevard was money plundered, as significant amount was spent for temporary display, Commission D Secretary for Development of Jakarta's Regional House of Representatives Pandapotan Sinaga stated.

Sinaga remarked when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday that the Jakarta government was able to create an artwork in a more sustainable way, particularly in terms of the financial aspect.

"We had spent Rp550 million (some US$39,000) on construction and installation. What can we get exactly from it?” Sinaga pointed out.

Dozens of officers from the Forestry, Parks, and Funerals Service disassembled the artwork “Getah Getih” on Wednesday evening until early Thursday.

Pieces of bamboo were then moved to the garbage dumps in KS Tubun, Central Jakarta, and Srengseng, West Jakarta.

This installation artwork created by artist Joko Avianto was dismantled, for the bamboo used was believed to have been undergoing decay and could perhaps harm the residents.

This is since when “Getah Getih” was assembled, several people approached it for taking pictures.

The artwork was installed in mid-August 2018 to coincide with the Asian Games event in Jakarta.

At present, some green buds remain in the vacant space that used to be the base of the installation.
