Majalengka, W Java (ANTARA) - Five people lost their lives while three others incurred serious injuries after a pickup car rammed into a minivan on the Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali) toll road in West Java on Friday night.

"It is believed that the driver of the pickup car fell asleep, so the car drove on the lane in the opposite direction and collided with the minivan," Chief of the Majalengka Police Resort Adjunct Senior Commissioner Mariyono remarked on Saturday.

Four passengers of the minivan Suzuki APV and one passenger of the pickup car Daihatsu Grand Max died in the accident.

The three passengers, who sustained serious injuries, are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

"We have taken the seriously injured people to Mitra Hospital in Plumbon and the bodies of those killed to the Ciderese Hospital in Majalengka," he added.
