Jakarta (ANTARA) - Three people died in a traffic accident involving a fuel tanker truck belonging to the state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina and a private car on Jakarta's inner city toll road on early Sunday, a fire and rescue agency's official said.

"Two victims are the Pertamina truck's crew members while the other is somebody inside the ill-fated private car," Head of East Jakarta's Fire and Rescue Agency Gatot Sulaiman said here on Sunday morning.

Sulaiman said fire gutted the Pertamina tanker truck but he did not know the primary cause of the fire. He presumed that it might be related to a traffic accident.

The victims got evacuated and would later be identified, he said, adding that his agency's on-duty workers received information on this accident at around 1:45 a.m. local time.

In extinguishing the fire and evacuating the victims, the East Jakarta fire station dispatched 10 fire trucks while the North Jakarta fire station sent two units.

The firefighters could put out the fire within an hour, Sulaiman said.
