Ogan Komering Ilir District Head Iskandar and Lampung Provincial Police Chief Inspector General Purwadi Arianto accompanied the two senior officials to the district, which borders South Sumatra province.
All of them expressed their condolences over the death of the family members.
Land disputes are believed to have led to clashes between residents of Mesuji Raya, Ogan Komering Ilir, South Sumatra and residents of Mekar Jaya, Mesuji, Lampung, Wednesday, July 17, 2019. At least three people died, some were left alone, and a number of others who were wounded had to be hospitalized.
Maj. Gen. Irwan said the government would find solutions and suggestions for relevant ministries and agencies on the agrarian conflicts on Register 45, Mesuji, Lampung.
"This is a record of the ministry because the regions certainly have limitations. Of course, there must be a clear status of the land so that such conflicts do not recur," said the commander on the sidelines of the visit.
Irwan ensured that the government was present in the midst of the conflict. The National Defense Forces (TNI), along with the Indonesian National Police and the local government continued to persuade the public to maintain a conducive environment after the bloody clashes on Register 45 Mesuji, Lampung some time ago.
"We are here with the South Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Lampung Regional Police, and the Ogan Komering Ilir District Head to ensure that the country is with the community to ensure such conflicts do not recur," he added.
The TNI will continue to assist the Indonesian Police in conducting post-conflict handling of Mesuji and ask the community, especially the families of the victims, to be patient and trust the legal efforts made by the police, according to Irwan. "We were all hit, but we have to be patient and entrust the handling of the case to the authorities," he added.
South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Firli regretted the bloody tragedy in Mesuji. He asked the community to prioritize a consensus in resolving each problem.
Lampung Police Chief Inspector General Purwadi Arianto ensured that the investigation into clashes between residents in the Registry 45 of Mesuji is still ongoing.
"The investigation continues, while we are collecting evidence and witnesses. The families are trusting the legal efforts taken by the police," Purwadi said.
In its efforts to resolve the problem, the Ogan Komering Ilir District Government would reassure its citizens and familiarize them with the status of land by entering the Ogan Komering Ilir and Lampung territories, Iskandar said.
"Both the Ogan Komering Ilir and Lampung, and the local government have agreed to jointly disseminate the status of the land which became the cause of the conflict yesterday," Iskandar said.
In fact, they will immediately coordinate with the provincial government and the central government regarding the status of the land.
"What is clear is that there must be legal certainty with regard to the land there. We will immediately coordinate so that it does not become a conflict. The local government will also help familiarize Ogan Komering Ilir residents with the status of land that enters Mesuji, Lampung or Ogan Komering Ilir, South Sumatra," he said.
