We plan to keep cultural and historical heritages in Gunung Kidul in a monument. Next year the district government will propose budget fund for land clearance
Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Gunung Kidul district government in Yogyakarta Special Province is mulling a plan to build a historical monument to keep cultural and historical heritages from pre-historical age, Mataram Islam era to independence struggle.

"We plan to keep cultural and historical heritages in Gunung Kidul in a monument. Next year the district government will propose budget fund for land clearance," Head of the Gunung Kidul Culture Office Agus Kamtono said on Wednesday.

Basically, the plan to build the monument needs a lot of studies and considerations. One of them is the three ages starting from the pre-historical age, Mataram Islam era, to independence movement against the colonial ruler, he said.

Hopefully, the historical and cultural heritages from the three ages could be kept in the monument, he said.

"We don't have a mature concept yet But we will draw a. rough picture of the monument which will keep not only historical heritages but also existing cultures," he said.

He believed that the natural and cultural heritages will attract tourists to visit the monument.

He dreamed of the district government building a special monument to show visitors the activities of the local people in the past. As such, the monument will also serve as a means of nostalgia.

"It could come in the form of a kampong to show the past activities or the activities to recall a memory of the past," he said.
