Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - The North Sumatra Province Narcotics Agency has destroyed 5,810.28 grams of methamphetamine and 968 ecstasy pills smuggled from the neighboring country Malaysia, the office's chairman Police Brigadier Atrial stated here on Tuesday.

The chief noted that the drugs were incinerated in a specially designed car owned by the agency. This special vehicle burns the drugs quicker than the usual incinerator, he pointed out.

Atrial remarked that the methamphetamine was confiscated by the agency on July 1 in the waters of Utara Gosong Siguna-guna in Serdang District, while the Indonesian Navy had seized the ecstasy in the waters of Tanjung Balai on April 30.

During the bust, the agency had seized six thousand grams of methamphetamine, while the navy had confiscated one thousand pills of ecstasy.

However, not all drugs were destroyed, as few grams of the methamphetamine and ecstasy would be sent for further laboratory examination.

Atrial stated that the smugglers were identified as two Malaysian citizens and two Indonesian nationals.

The Malaysian citizens -- YBL, 55, and OCP, 56, -- were the residents of Pantai Kuala Kurau Perak, while the Indonesian citizens -- AV, 32, and SR, 29, -- were the residents of Medan City, North Sumatra Province.

Atrial noted that the smugglers may face capital punishment or lifetime imprisonment, as they had violated Law No. 32 of 2009 on Narcotics.
