"This team is the best, so it will further work on (the information and proofs collected by) sub-teams. Hence, as the spokesman, I say we are optimistic of being able to solve (the Novel Baswedan case)," Iqbal noted.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A technical team will further study the CCTV records of Novel Baswedan, Corruption Eradication Commission’s senior investigator, an acid attack victim suffering left eye vision loss and nasal injury, though perpetrators remain unidentified and absconding.

"We study further (the CCTV video records). It is possible that we will once again seek assistance of the Australian Police," Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal, the Indonesian Police’s spokesman, remarked at the Police Headquarters here on Wednesday.

The technical team had explored the crime scene and collected information from witnesses, he remarked.

"This is since the crime scene is important, and it must be frequently explored to unearth proof. We have also further questioned the witnesses," he added.

Iqbal expressed optimism that the efforts of the technical team would yield sound results, as police officers joining the team are the best.

"Later, several steps will be taken. This team is the best, so it will further work on (the information and proofs accrued by) the sub-teams. Hence, as the spokesman, I say we are optimistic of being able to solve (the Novel Baswedan case)," Iqbal noted.

The technical team was formed at the recommendation of the Fact Finding Team (TPF) after it had worked for six months but failed to find nor identify the attackers.

The technical team further delves deeper into the facts and data collected by the TPF and investigates the case in a professional manner.

President Joko Widodo has set a deadline for the technical team to work for three months, from Aug 1 to Oct 31, 2019.

Baswedan was at the receiving end of a fatal attack while heading home after performing Fajr, or the Dawn prayer, at a mosque nearby when two motorcyclists hurled acid on his face that injured his eyes, particularly the left eye, on April 11, 2017.

The retired police officer had worked for the anti-graft agency since 2007 and was entrusted with investigating major corruption cases, including those allegedly involving several high-ranking officials. Since then, he has been frequently terrorized and attacked.

Both the Jakarta Metro Jaya Police and the National Police's Crime Investigation Department have claimed to be incessantly investigating the case, though the probe had yet to trace the attackers.
