Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Public Works and Public Housing Ministry had operated nine highways, measuring nearly one thousand kilometers in total, during the 2015-2019 period, its minister, Basuki Hadimuljono, noted in a statement received here, Monday.

The ministry had planned to develop 1,852 kilometers of highway by this year’s end in order to boost connectivity between regions and enhance efficiency in terms of the distribution of goods and services, Hadimuljono noted.

"By May this year, we have operated highways, with a total length of 949 kilometers, and we will soon add 406.14 kilometers more," Hadimuljono added.

In a similar statement released by the ministry, Indonesian Toll Authority (BPJT) Chairman Danang Parikesit stated that the nine operational highways were Cinere-Jagorawi (Cijago), Tebanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung; Manado-Bitung, Balikpapan-Samarinda, Pandaan-Malang, Kunciran-Serpong, Pandaan-Malang, Kayu Agung-Palembang-Betung; Pekanbaru-Dumai, and Jakarta-Cikampek II.

However, the work on most highways had yet to be completed, but their construction had reached 66.4-97.1 percent completion.

For instance, construction of the Tebanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung Highway in South Sumatra Province had reached 94.33 percent completion. The ministry had targeted to complete the construction by September 2019.

Meanwhile, in October 2019, the ministry will launch the Balikpapan-Samarinda Toll and Samboja-Samarinda Toll located in East Kalimantan Province. On November 2019, the ministry will launch the Kunciran-Serpong Toll in Banten Province and Pandaan-Malang Toll in East Java Province.
