Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are encouraged to become world-class players through endeavors including developing quality and competitive human capital that can deliver good performance at the global level.

"Our entrepreneurs and state-owned enterprises must dare to become world-class players. That is what we must strive to do," President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) noted in his state address before members of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Friday.

The head of state believes that the country has a huge talent pool, of good reputation, which can compete at the global level.

Jokowi called on various business actors to also dare to expand their businesses, not only in the domestic but also global markets.

"Once again, we must be more expansive, from local to global," Jokowi emphasized.

The best momentum of developing human capital is during the 2020-2024 period when Indonesia is expected to fully capitalize on the benefits of a demographic dividend.

Therefore, during the second term of his presidency, Jokowi will prioritize the development of quality human capital and employ novel means to garner benefits from the demographic dividend to leapfrog progress.

The government has committed to developing Indonesia's human capital across the archipelago in line with the theme of the country's 74th Independence Anniversary "SDM Unggul Indonesia Maju" (advanced human capital for a better Indonesia).

President Jokowi, in accordance with his referral speech delivered at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), West Java, July 14, has spoken of various visions of Indonesia, one of which is the development of human capital as a key for Indonesia to forge forward.

The president believes the starting point for the development of human capital is ensuring the health of pregnant women, infants, and children.

To this end, the government is majorly tasked with curtailing the number of cases of stunting and maternal deaths.

In addition to the health issue, the government will focus on improving the quality of education.

Further, the government, under the Jokowi administration, will build talent management institutions and vocational schools as well as to conduct vocational training.

Jokowi also pledged to ready special institutions for managing talented people, who can help Indonesia to lead in the global competition.
