I agree with Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto to cool down the situation in Papua
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Young Papuan leader Samuel Tabuni has asked the younger generation in Papua to reduce their anger and provide an opportunity to the government to resolve the problems in the easternmost Indonesian province. "I agree with Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto to cool down the situation in Papua," Samuel Tabuni said at the office of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs in Jakarta, Friday.

On the occasion, Samuel Tabuni highlighted the difficulty of the Papuans to be involved in PT Freeport's activities.

However, after a large demonstration, the people of Papua were involved in PT Freeport's activities.

Not just that, Tabuni noted the birth of special autonomy for Papua after large-scale demonstrations.

"If we don't embrace the thoughts of the younger generation in Papuan, the province has no future," Tabuni said.

The legal process against racists in Papua's student dormitories in Surabaya had only begun, after a demonstration in Papua, Tabuni also said.

"However, racism has been going on for a long time," he said.

Therefore, he asked President Jokowi and all ministers in their second tenure to pay more attention to the people of Papua.

Responding to that, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto said that the government would try to respond faster to all aspirations from Papua.

"The hope can be realized with constructive dialogue. Thus, all parties should calm the situation in Papua," minister Wiranto stated.

The aspirations of the people of Papua can be resolved through good dialogue.
