Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police Headquarters has ordered the South Sulawesi Provincial Police to take firm measures against the personnel who committed violence against three journalists covering a student demonstration on Tuesday. "Personally, I regret the incident and I order the chief of the public relations division of the Provincial Police to meet the personnel to apologize," Chief of the Public Information Bureau of Public Relations Division at the National Police Headquarters, Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo, said on Thursday.

The three journalists are Muh Darwin Fathir of the Antara news agency, Saiful of Inikata.com, and Isak Pasabuan of Makassar Today.

Looking ahead, Dedi asked journalists covering the demonstrations, which may end in chaos to wear vests, which say "journalist" so security personnel can easily identify them.

They should not join the demonstrators or obstruct security personnel, he said.

"So far, I look at journalists (covering demonstrations) in the front and joining protesters, while their small identity card is not visible from afar," he said.
