Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - Mount Tangkuban Perahu has been reopened to tourists after the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) lowered the volcano's status to the lowest alert Level I or Normal, the chief Kasbani stated here, Monday.

As one of the popular attractions in West Java Province, hundreds of tourists visit the volcano's crater daily, but the site had been closed for any public activities since July owing to the eruptions.

"At the alert Level I of Normal, all tourists and climbers are suggested to not walk down to the crater of Mount Tangkuban Perahu as well as other nearby active craters," Kasbani stated at the PVMBG office in Bandung.

He cautioned that the crater might emit noxious gas that can be detrimental to public health.

During the visiting hours of the attraction, the Mount Tangkuban Perahu's crater was thronged by tourists and climbers in addition to tour guides and street vendors. Related news: Mt Tangkuban Perahu's eruption not trigger faults' motions: Researcher

Hence, when the volcano’s alert status reached Level II or Waspada (cautious), the office restricted public activities within an around 1.5-kilometer radius from the crater.

On a separate occasion, the Tangkuban Perahu tourist operator office's chairman, Putra Kaban, claimed he will adhere to the instructions of the mitigation center.

"We reopened today, and the operational hours will return to normal," he added.

He remarked that the eruptions had affected the incomes of five thousand villagers. Hence, Kaban has pinned hopes that the reopening will help revive the economy sector in Mount Tangkuban Perahu.

The volcano erupted thrice in July 26, 2019; August 2, 2019; and September 7, 2019. However, the local police confirmed no casualties from the eruptions.
