The vandals stole several items in the mosque, including carpet and charity boxes, and attempted to destroy its building with the excavator, a local resident named Anto Robot informed ANTARA representative, who met him at the ill-fated house of worship here on Wednesday.
The miscreants also caused damage to several other electronic devices in the mosque, including air conditioners and fans. However, the attackers' attempt to destroy the mosque's building could be stalled after several housewives arrived to defend it, he recalled.
With increasing presence of local residents at the mosque, the attackers were unable to bulldoze the building and then fled the area to avoid a physical clash with the locals, Robot recollected.
