Jakarta (ANTARA) - Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang has stated that he plans to revitalize the manufacturing industry to boost growth.

"Breakthroughs must be sought for this, and we know that Indonesia's market size is quite good," the new minister, who was appointed by President Jokowi Wednesday, told the press at the State Palace, here Thursday. The President ordered an improvement in the quality of human resources to meet the needs of Industry 4.0, he said.

Vocational education must meet international standards if we have to develop human resources, he remarked.

Jokowi also wanted regulations simplified to attract more investments.

"Within a month, every ministry, including the industry ministry, must report to me about regulations that need to be improved to attract investors and boost industry, which in turn is expected to create job opportunities," Jokowi said.

While chairing a plenary cabinet meeting here Thursday, he said incentives must be awarded to industries oriented for export increase and those producing goods to substitute imports.

Jokowi also asked every ministry and related institutions as well as regional administrations to focus on job creation.

At the meeting, he also warned his cabinet members about working in cooperation as one team, instead of implementing their own programmes to boost Indonesia's development.

In building a great nation such as Indonesia, the ministries and government agencies cannot work in isolation with their agendas, he said.
