Semarang, C Java (ANTARA) - State airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) I involves Airport Council International (ACI) for safety level assessment of Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang, Central Java, as a form of commitment to enhancing airport safety quality.

"Safety is an absolute principle in the aviation sector that we must always maintain and improve in addition to the aspects of security, service, and compliance," PT Angkasa Pura I Operations Director Wendo Asrul Rose stated in Semarang on Monday.

To achieve the operational edge of airports, especially the aspect of safety, PT Angkasa Pura I conducts periodical evaluation of the safety of its airports by participating in the Airport Excellence (APEX) Program in Safety involving the ACI.

Evaluation of the airports' safety was initiated by PT Angkasa Pura I by participating in the APEX Program in Safety initiated by ACI, a world airport institute that assists its members to enhance their compliance and adaptation in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

The supporting aspects of safety at the airport evaluated by the team of ACI auditors comprise flight accident aid and firefighting, various documents concerning airport safety, safety information, and wild animal management.

Ahmad Yani Airport is the fifth to be evaluated by ACI after I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali; Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan; Juanda Surabaya Airport in Sidoarjo, East Java; and Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi.
