The construction industry is the slowest sector to adopt digital technology.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono conceded that Indonesia's construction industry had been slow at digital adoption that is the key to boosting the nation’s construction competitiveness.

"The construction industry is the sector that is the slowest in adopting digital technology," Hadimuljono stated at the opening of Forum Engineering 10 here on Tuesday.

The minister highlighted the criticality in construction digitalization, as the industry has become one of the government's development priorities for the next five years.

As part of the endeavors to encourage digitalization in the sector, the government has imposed standardization of Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Hadimuljono believes that digitalization in the construction industry will enhance its efficiency.

At the event, the minister highlighted some achievements in national infrastructure development, including revitalization of the Manahan Stadium in Solo, Central Java; Public Market in Bukit Tinggi, West Sumatra; construction of a sports center in Papua as a venue of the multi-sport event National Sports Week (PON) 2020; and construction of the Manado-Bitung toll road.

Governor of the central bank (BI) Perry Warjiyo had earlier cautioned about the declining globalization and rising digitalization that on the other hand would affect national economic development in future.

"The dynamics of the global economy and finance is now facing diminishing globalization and rising digitalization," Warjiyo stated.

President Director and CEO of PT Siemens Indonesia Prakash Chandran remarked that the fourth industrial revolution, supported by digital adoption, is crucial for industrial transformation in Indonesia.

Chandran noted that digital adoption is a focal point for companies to streamline their businesses to realize greater efficiency and sustainability while concurrently enhancing customer experience.
