Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin drew the collective attention of all policy makers at the central and regional levels to involve the public in the policy-making process through sound communication.

"I call upon all of us to more frequently listen to the aspirations developing in the community and actively conduct good communication with the public before adopting any policy," he stated while closing a National Coordination Meeting between the Central Government and Regional Leaders Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) at the Sentul City International Convention Center (SICC) in West Java on Wednesday night.

Public participation is crucial in the policy-making process, and any policy adopted will be beneficial and run in accordance with the public's needs, he remarked.

If the policy adopted fails to align with the people’s aspirations, then a sense of dissatisfaction will develop towards the government. If this public discontent is not addressed promptly, then it will impact the government’s stability akin to what Hong Kong, Chile, and Lebanon are witnessing.

"The social unrest is triggered by policies that cannot be accepted by their citizens, so it paralyzes their economy and government," he stated.

The national coordination meeting themed, "Synergy for Onward Indonesia," was aimed at harmonizing the vision, mission, and development plan during the Jokowi-Ma'ruf administration.
