Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi held a meeting with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary General Kitack Lim before election of members of the IMC Council under category C and IMO external auditor.

At the meeting, the minister handed over the document endorsing the IMO International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel, 1995 (STCW-F). STCW-F 1995 began to take effect internationally on September 29, 2012, the Transportation Ministry noted in a written statement released on Thursday.

The meeting also discussed ways to boost the competency of Indonesian human resources employed in the maritime sector.

During the meeting, Sumadi was accompanied by the director general of sea transportation, director general of wild fisheries of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry, deputy chief of the Supreme Audit Board (BPK), and the Indonesian ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The transportation minister had earlier also raised support for Indonesia’s candidacy for member of the IMO Council for the 2020-2021 period.

For its part, he held bilateral talks with Swedish Infrastructure Minister Thomas Eneroth on Tuesday (Nov 26).

At the meeting, Sumadi sought Sweden’s support for Indonesia's bid for the IMO Council membership under category C for the 2020-2021 period and BPK's bid for IMO external auditor for the 2020-2023 period.
