I remind prospective passengers to buy a ticket from way before the trip, so they do not miss out on the seats
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia stated that 30 to 40 percent of the total train tickets prepared for the Christmas 2019 and New Year 2020 holiday season had been sold, counted 30 days before the day. "We sell tickets for departures 30 days before Christmas and New Year. It is now the 2nd of December, purchases should have started to gradually increase. Departure tickets for December 19 to January 5 2020, have been sold, which is 30 to 40 percent of the total," said Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Edi Sukmoro at Pasar Senen Station, Jakarta, Monday.

The increase in the number of passengers during the Christmas and New Year holiday period would be 4 percent compared to the daily seating capacity, Sukmoro estimated. In 2018, there were 240,162 seats, which increased this year to 250,012.

Meanwhile, the number of passengers increased by four percent from 5.6 million people in 2018 to 5.9 million people this year.

For that reason, PT KAI will carry out 404 train trips consisting of 374 regular train services and 30 additional Christmas and New Year services, an increase of 2.5 percent from 2018 with 394 trains, 346 regular trains and 48 Christmas and New Year trains.

Sukmoro asked for prospective passengers to buy tickets long before their set departure dates, in order to prepare for the trip.

"I remind prospective passengers to buy a ticket from way before the trip, so they do not miss out on the seats," he said.

The most sought after train journey destinations include Surabaya, Yogyakarta and Solo, he revealed.

Occupancy has also increased due to the connection between the Jakarta-Surabaya dual lane, but at this time the South Line has not yet been connected.
