"During the four years of our journey to lead the KPK, alhamdulillah, although the improvement is slow, but our CPI shows a positive trend," Rahardjo remarked at the commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day 2019 at KPK's Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Monday.
While drawing reference to the research released by Transparency International, Indonesia's CPI shows a slight improvement, from 37 in 2017 to 38 in 2018.
"Last year's CPI stood at 38. We are still awaiting the latest ranking to be released soon for 2019. We hope the positive trend would be maintained," Rahardjo remarked.
CPI is measured on the basis of various variables, including political or economic matters, as well as competition among nations or among businesspersons.
Hence, Rahardjo believes that solely relying on the KPK to maintain the positive trend of CPI would not suffice, but the president’s full support was also deemed necessary.
"The president, as commander of the corruption eradication efforts, must be able to coordinate with all parties to jointly overcome weaknesses in several sectors," he remarked.
The KPK has been striving on preventive efforts to curtail the country's potential losses to Rp63.9 trillion, sourced from monitoring the administration of the state government and studies totaling Rp34.7 trillion.
Moreover, the anti-graft body has been coordinating and supervising prevention activities that can save some Rp29 trillion of the state's assets and state's finances from gratuities of goods and money worth Rp159 billion. Related news: KPK remains committed to corruption eradication efforts
