Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government of Indonesia has expressed its readiness to safeguard the Christmas and New Year celebrations, Coordinating Minister for Political, Security, and Legal Affairs, Mahfud MD, said.

"Everything has been prepared to secure the Christmas and New Year celebrations. We have coordinated with ministries and institutions," Mahfud MD said in Jakarta on Monday.

From the security aspect, he said, the military and the police had taken anticipatory measures in the event of a security breach.

The government has prepared facilities and infrastructure to anticipate the surge in the flow of the Christmas and New Year travelers.

"Facilities, infrastructure, fuels, and others are ready. Everything has been prepared," he said.

He expected that people could celebrate Christmas and New Year comfortably.

"Hopefully, people can celebrate Christmas and New Year comfortably. The government needs support from the community to ensure security during Christmas and New Year celebrations," the minister said.

In addition, Mahfud also asked the public to report suspicious activities to the authorities.
