We will conduct some lobbying with the Chinese Consulate General in Medan to enable us to gradually supply catfish products in capacity.
Pekanbaru (ANTARA) - China has expressed interest in importing catfish products from Riau that are viewed as being of good quality, Riau Province Governor Syamsuar stated.

"China has demanded us to ship 500 tons per month, which we are unable to fulfill since our production of catfish is yet limited," Syamsuar remarked in Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau, Thursday.

However, Syamsuar noted that Riau will undertake the export demand to China gradually to reach 500 tons in accordance with China’s intent.

"We will conduct some lobbying with the Chinese Consulate General in Medan to enable us to gradually supply catfish products in capacity," he revealed.

China usually imports fish products, including the well-known variety pangasius from Vietnam, though now it is eyeing Riau's products.

Syamsuar recently participated in a mass catfish harvesting in Kampar District, one of the regions in Riau that produces that freshwater fish species. Related news: Trade Attach encourages exports of added-value products to China
