Extreme weather will occur from January 11 to 15, late January, and middle February.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has cautioned residents of Jakarta and the surrounding areas of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi to be wary of extreme weather forecast in January and February.

“According to BMKG’s (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency's) weather forecast, extreme weather will occur through January 11 to 15, late January, and mid-February," BNPB spokesperson, Lilik Kurniawan, noted in a statement received in Jakarta, Thursday.

Following the hydrometeorological disasters that struck several spots across the region earlier on New Year’s, the BNPB had urged the regional disaster management bodies to be prepared as a precautionary measure against other hazardous events during this season.

The provincial bodies are expected to step up their preparations, including early warning for flooding and landslide, as well as check related infrastructure, such as waterways, dyke, water pumps, and floodgates.

"The bodies need to raise awareness and further edify the people," Kurniawan added.
