Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced the daily nominal wage of national farm workers in December 2019, hiking it from Rp54,650 to Rp54,723 per day, up 0.13 percent compared to November 2019. "Inflation in the countryside is 0.28 percent, so even though the nominal wage is up 0.13 percent, the real wage of farm workers is down 0.14 percent," BPS Head Suhariyanto said in Jakarta Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the average nominal wage of construction workers in December 2019 compared to November 2019 increased by 0.11 percent, from Rp89,081 to Rp89,179.

However, the real wages in December 2019 compared to November 2019 fell by 0.23 percent, from Rp64,272 to Rp64,125.

For hair dressers, the average nominal wage in December 2019 compared to November 2019 remained unchanged at Rp28,415.

However, the real wages in December 2019 compared to November 2019 fell by 0.34 percent, from Rp20,501 to Rp20,432.

As for housemaids, the average nominal wage in December 2019 compared to November 2019 increased 0.12 percent, from Rp418,795 to Rp419,298.

However, the real wages of December 2019 compared to November 2019 were down 0.22 percent, from Rp302,161 to Rp301,501.

The nominal wage for labor/worker is the average daily wage received by labor as compensation for work done and the real wage of labor/worker represents the purchasing power of income/wages received by labor/worker.

The real wage of farm laborers is the ratio between the nominal wages of farm workers and the index of rural household consumption, while the real wage of construction workers is the ratio of the nominal wages of construction workers to the urban consumer price index. (INE)
