Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s National Police will deploy 200 thousand personnel to secure the simultaneous regional head elections to be held across Indonesian regions on September, 23, 2020, a spokesperson, Senior Commissioner Asep Adi Saputra stated here, Friday.

"We have prepared our manpower to guard 270 areas in Indonesia for the regional polls," Saputra reaffirmed at the National Police HQ, citing the regions include nine provinces to elect governors; 224 districts to vote for new district heads; and 27 cities to vote for mayors.

According to the spokesperson, political tension may escalate in few regions ahead of the elections. Hence, the national police will apply more stringent protection in few regions, including Southeast Sulawesi Province, North Sulawesi Province, and South Kalimantan Province.

Meanwhile, more police personnel will also be deployed in few districts in Indonesia's easternmost regions some of which comprise Nabire and Keerom in Papua; Timur Tengah Utara, Manggarai, and West Sumba in East Nusa Tenggara Province; Tojo Una Una in Central Sulawesi; and North Musi Rawas in South Sumatra, according to the spokesperson.

Apart from the provinces and districts, the national police will also launch more personnel in several cities where political tension may escalate. The cities include Tomohon and Bitung in North Sulawesi, and South Tangerang in Banten Province.
