Jakarta (ANTARA) - To make Indonesia free from over-dimension and overloading (ODOL) in 2022, strict action will be initiated against cargo companies violating dimensions and loading rules, the Transportation Ministry has stated.

"The Director General of Land Transportation will supervise and initiate stern legal measures against overloading and over-dimension. We will also coordinate with relevant parties including the Traffic Corps of the Indonesian Police, the Director General of Highways, the Toll Road Regulatory Body and Provincial and District/Municipal Transportation Offices," Director General of Land Transportation of the Transportation Ministry Budi Setyadi said in a written statement released Wednesday.

To prevent over-dimension and overloading in trucks moving on toll roads, his team will coordinate with the toll road operator Jasa Marga and toll road business entity in supervising and acting against violators, he said.

The Transportation Ministry will be able to get rid of such trucks from operating, he believed.

Setyadi lauded the request of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to take stern measures against defaulting trucks.

"We agree with Kadin's statement that safety is a priority in traffic. Of course, the move will not only target logistics agents. The effort to combat trucks with over-dimension and overloading needs synergy between various parties including the police, businessmen, vehicle owners and the government. The public too needs to play its role here," he added.
