“Ulos Pinunsaan,” also known as “Ulos Jugia,” or “Ulos Naso Ra Ripot,” is usually a way to welcome honorable guests.
Its name means “person who already has grandchild,” and the ulos is exclusively owned by the Toba Bataknese.
The traditional dance of “Tortor Panomunomuan” escorts the procession of some Bataknese leaders, who then placed the ulos around the King and Queen.
Thereafter, they engaged in brief conversations on cultural and traditional customs of Toba Bataknese.
The King and Queen also had a look at centuries-old Bataknese houses as well as the ulos crafting process.
King Alexander and Queen Cerruti arrived in Indonesia through Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Airport on Monday, March 9, as the visit will be held until March 13.
Indonesia’s special visit aims at bolstering bilateral cooperation on economic and human capital between both nations.
