Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Indonesian House Speaker Aziz Syamsudin has urged the government to tighten ports of entry across the country as a precautionary measure to stem the spread of the coronavirus, after the government confirmed cases of the virus entering the country from abroad.

"Each port of entry in Indonesia, such as airports, have been equipped with thermal scanners," Aziz said at the parliament building, here, on Thursday.

However, he questioned why foreign nationals with positive coronavirus infections could enter Indonesia. Hence, the government should pay attention to airports at the country's main tourist destinations, such as Bali, Yogyakarta, Jakarta and Batam.

The government should tighten entry at the airports in such a way that no foreign national with a positive coronavirus infection could enter the country, he added.

Seven more patients tested positive for coronavirus in Indonesia on Wednesday, with the majority of them having contracted the infection abroad, a government spokesman for the handling of COVID-19, Achmad Yurianto, confirmed.

"As of Wednesday, (we have) seven more patients, with most of them suffering from mild to moderate illness, who are identified as cases 29 and 30, displaying moderate illness. All of them are imported cases (of coronavirus)," he stated at the Presidential Palace compounds here on Wednesday.

The seven patients were identified as cases 28 to 34, he noted.

Aziz further asked the public not to panic, requesting the public to help the government to prevent the coronavirus from spreading, he added.
