We must not wait for a definitive drug or vaccine to fight this disease. If we look at global data, the number of patients who have recovered is far higher than those who died
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Building immunity is essential for fighting off a coronavirus infection in the absence of effective vaccines or drugs, said government spokesman for the handling of the COVID-19 response, Achmad Yurianto.

"We must not wait for a definitive drug or vaccine to fight this disease. If we look at global data, the number of patients who have recovered is far higher than those who died," he said in a joint press conference with the COVID-19 task force at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNBP) in Jakarta on Friday.

COVID-19, which is caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, is a self limiting disease that affects the immune system, he said.

Increasing immunity is key to protecting oneself from the disease, he said.

Measures to treat patients with coronavirus infections include strengthening their immunity, he said.

Several COVID-19 patients who recovered at hospitals did not use specific medical treatments since no drug or vaccine has been developed to fight COVID-19 yet, he noted. They recovered thanks to a strong immune system, he asserted. (INE)
